A frontier army outpost built in 1864, this national historic landmark is one of the best preserved forts in the nation. More than a dozen buildings can be seen on the self-guided tour. The visitor center is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. 14 Campsites (10 with electricity), comfort station available. The fort comes alive during the Fort Sisseton Festival the first weekend in June. Special events dealing with Fort history and frontier activities are held monthly throughout the year. The South Barracks is also available for large group events. The Northern Fort Playhouse will hold performances three weekends in July. Located 10 miles southwest of Lake City off Hwy 10, Exit 232 off I-29, 35 miles.  11907  434 Ave. Lake City, SD
