"Sister Cities"

Ortonville

The sister cities of Ortonville, MN and Big Stone City, SD welcome visitors to our prairie oasis.  We're located at the base of the"hump" on Minnesota's western border, where the plains meet the hills and the lakes meet the rivers.  Apple orchards dot the eastern shores of Big Stone Lake where in the fall, people come from miles around to get some of the best fruit in the Region.

Here Big Stone Lake begins its southward flow 26 miles to the quaint setting that Ortonville and Big Stone city share at the foot of the lake.  And here, too, are the headwaters of the Minnesota river which joins the Mississippi river 330 miles downstream.

Home to several major walleye tournaments annually, Big Stone Lake offers some of the best walleye, northern and panfishing in the area.  You can fish with either a Minnesota or South Dakota license.  Also, for your enjoyment are Festivals such as Cornfest, Inkpa Days, Big Stone County Fair, Inkpaduta Trail Ride and much more!
